Over 1100 players turned out for the tournament with a guaranteed $5 million prize pool, the largest casino guarantee ever. The first event -- $300 No Limit Hold'em -- began on Wednesday, September 3rd and drew a prize pool of $357,600 and a first-place prize of $77,170.

Now, it's about to be reborn with a tropical theme under new owners who are bringing singer Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville" brand to the Northeast in hopes of reviving a property that had become as listless as the hero of Buffett's hit song.
Coastal Marina LLC, an affiliate of Coastal Development LLC, said Thursday it is buying the casino from Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the casino company founded by real estate magnate Donald Trump. Read more.
Trump Plaza to get 12 automated Poker Tables 5/22/2008 PokerTek, Inc., the industry pioneer and worldwide leader in automated poker tables and related software, announced today that they have signed a contract with Trump Plaza Casino to offer PokerPro(R) for field trial. The 12 table PokerPro poker room at Trump Plaza will open pending final approval by the State of New Jersey Casino Control Commission, and will be the first automated poker room in the state.

Tropicana has bedbugs. The Tropicana is starting to lose customers, including some high rollers, over its uncleanliness. Several people have sited seeing cockroaches, & bedbugs in additon to the muddy floors and piles of dust. One convention group is refusing to pay the last part of their bill from June because the conditions were so bad.
